Air Con Guide

How we check installers

Every fact on an installer's page comes from a source we can show you: its own website, the F-gas register, Companies House or a manufacturer's installer finder. Here is exactly how.

Last reviewed

F-gas status: Verified, Claimed, Not found

In the UK, a business that installs, services or repairs air conditioning containing fluorinated gases ("F-gas") must be certified through a certification body, and its engineers must hold personal certificates. We show one of three statuses:

  • Verified: the installer states a certificate and we found the same firm on the certifying body's public register. The certificate number and register are shown on the profile.
  • Claimed: the installer says it is certified (or that its engineers are) but we could not match a company certificate on a register. Ask to see it.
  • Not found: we found no certificate. This is not the same as not certified: some companies opt out of public registers, and registers have gaps. It is a prompt to ask for the certificate before you book.

We never infer certification from a membership logo, and we never present "not found" as "not certified".

Company history

Company number, status and incorporation date come from the Companies House page for the firm. "Years trading" is the number of whole years since incorporation. Sole traders have no Companies House record, so for them we show "trading since" only when their own site states it, and say so. We do not publish a firm that Companies House shows as dissolved, in liquidation or in administration.

Prices

We list a price only if the installer publishes it, copy it exactly, record what it includes (for example "supply and fit, VAT included"), and show the date we read it. A price with an end date disappears from the site on that date. If a firm does not publish prices we say so, and we do not estimate. Where a price says "from", we say "from".

Manufacturer approvals

Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Fujitsu and others run installer schemes with levels. We show the level an installer states and add a tick when we also found it on the manufacturer's own installer finder.

Reviews

We do not collect reviews and do not scrape review platforms. When an installer displays a headline rating and review count on its own website, we show that score, the platform it names, the date we read it, and a link. Scores on different platforms use different scales (for example out of 5 or out of 10) and cannot be compared like for like. Short testimonials are copied word for word from the installer's own site and attributed.

Coverage and location

Installers serve an area; they do not sit at one pin. We show where each is based, which postcode districts and places it says it covers, and any travel limit it states. An installer based outside the city is listed only if it says it covers the city. The map pins show base locations, not coverage.

How often we re-check

Every source page is re-read every month, and each fact keeps its own check date. Code compares every price, rating, count and number shown on an installer's page with the stored record, and a mismatch stops the build. The pages show the oldest date a displayed fact was read.
